Kick Those Monday Blahs

Cheers to another week!

Here are your Monday Fun Facts to read and share!

Say what?

Humans share 50% of their DNA with bananas and are genetically closer to mushrooms than mushrooms are to plants. Wait, what? Well, listen to Neil deGrasse Tyson talk about it:

Decadent Delicacy

It takes 400 cocoa beans to make one pound of chocolate, and each cacao tree produces approximately 2,500 beans. However, because cacao trees are so delicate, farmers lose, on average, 30% of their crop each year. So…savor that chocolate!

Party Time!

Peacocks are only male. Their female counterpart is called a peahen. While a group of any peafowl is called a harem, a group of females is known as a bevy, a muster, or a party when they are in groups without the males. Party on, peahens!

Hiccup!

A normal episode of hiccups lasts a few minutes, but a man named Charles Osborne (1894-1991) of Anthon, Iowa, had hiccups from 1922 to 1960, until he was 96 years old. He started hiccupping in 1922 when he was hanging a hog for a butchering operation. He picked up the 350-pound carcass and then fell down. He didn’t feel a thing. However, his hiccups began. During the first few decades, he hiccupped up to 40 times a minute, slowing to 20 a minute in later years.
